Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule

The official list below lists the time slots that are reserved - not exams that have been confirmed. Please confirm with your teacher whether or not the final exam for the course will be held during this time period.

Be sure to read all the Goethe exam conditions and guidelines on each exam's webpage prior to you register. Make sure you register for the appropriate level of exam.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists the locations where DEP conducts operator qualification tests. Exam pages for each exam are available for additional guidelines, terms and conditions and exam material. If you require special accommodations due to chronic illness or visual or hearing impairment, you should contact the exam provider directly. Make sure to provide detailed documentation upon registration.

Faculty can find their exam times by using the "View My Teaching Schedule" task on the Faculty Dashboard in Workday. The Registrar's Office also has a list with exam times for the classes that must have an exam by NYSED regulations. For evening classes final exams are scheduled during the regular class meeting time during the exam week.

Registration

The exam schedule is available on the internet, and students are advised to consult it. Students should also print out the official list to take with them to the exam.

In addition to the exam schedule, students must familiarize themselves with the exam guidelines and the terms and conditions. They are available on the webpage for each exam. Students acknowledge that they have read and agreed to the conditions and terms of registration.

Exam sites try their best to accommodate participants who have special needs. The nature and severity of these requirements should be stated on the registration form and confirmed by a physician's attestation. The locations of the exam must respect and maintain confidentiality.

If a student is scheduled to take three examinations scheduled for the same day, it is recommended that they contact their instructor or department to arrange an alternate exam. While it is possible to take three exams in a single day, it can cause a high stress level and can impact the quality of the exam. The professor might not be able to offer a makeup test on another day.

Before taking the test Students must prepare for the exam by reviewing their study material and practice their German skills. The test is a test on paper that tests the ability to read, speak, and write in German. The exam results are presented on a scale from A1 to C2. Students who pass the test are awarded an Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate confirms that the student has attained the level of language A1. This level is the first level of the six-level scale of competence outlined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The exam is free of cost. Students must bring an official government ID to the test. Anyone who does not have a valid photo ID will be disqualified.

Fees

You'll need to pay an exam fee for the opportunity to receive the Goethe-Zertifikat (start German 1) after you have completed your Elan Academy studies. This fee is in addition the course fees.

Practice assessments allow you to get familiar with the format, wording, and difficulty of the questions on the test. They allow you to assess your knowledge, spot gaps and improve your chances of acing the test.

Please note that the exam fee is not refundable. Examination results can only be accessed via email and not by phone.
